People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday expressed grief and outrage over the tragic and mysterious death of Zubair Ahmad Bhat, a 30-year-old resident of Sehyar Ali Kadal, Srinagar, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Delhi. Zubair.
The party in a statement issued here said Zubair was the sole breadwinner for three families, and leaves behind a void that demands immediate action and accountability.
According to the statement, PDP leader Iltija Mufti visited Zubair’s grieving family at Aali Kadal to offer her heartfelt condolences and assure them of the party’s unwavering support in seeking a fair and transparent investigation into his death.
Accompanied by the constituency in charge, Habba Kadal, Arif Laigroo and District President Srinagar, Ab Qayoom Bhat, Mufti listened to the family’s concerns and pledged to stand by them in their pursuit of justice.
“Zubair Ahmad Bhat’s sudden demise has raised serious questions, with the family alleging foul play and citing digital evidence, including screenshots of messages, that suggest he may have been attacked in the neighbourhood where he was staying in Delhi,” the statement said.
It added, “Despite a history of migraines, Zubair was reportedly in good health and regularly travelled to Delhi for professional reasons, making his death all the more alarming. The family has further alleged that the Delhi Police is not providing a clear picture of the incident and has been evading answers, adding to their distress and raising concerns about the transparency of the investigation.”
“The family has accused the hospital authorities of failing to provide due medical care to Zubair. They claim that the hospital staff inquired about Zubair’s identity and, upon learning he was Kashmiri, discriminated against him, which may have contributed to the tragic outcome. These serious allegations of negligence and bias demand a thorough inquiry to ensure justice is not denied to the victim and his family,” the statement added.
The PDP said it strongly condemns any alleged negligence, misconduct or discrimination that may have led to this tragedy and demands a thorough probe to uncover the truth. “We urge the authorities to ensure that justice is served swiftly and transparently, addressing the family’s concerns and the growing public outrage in Kashmir,” it said.
The party further said, “As Zubair was the sole breadwinner supporting three families, the PDP calls upon the ruling government to provide immediate relief by ensuring a government job for a family member to secure their sustenance and livelihood. This is not just a matter of justice but also of humanity, as these families now face an uncertain future.”
