Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & HoFF J&K Forest Department, Roshan Jaggi on Saturday inaugurated an event on Mission LiFE in Environment Park at Raika near Jammu City.
School Children, representatives of NGOs, PRIs, staff from various wings of the Forest Department, local people and trainees of Forestry Training School, participated in the event.
Earlier a Single Use Plastic (SUP) cleanliness drive was organised from Narwal bye-pass to Balidan Stamb Chowk. The participants cleaned the garbage including SUV items and disposed of safely. It was followed by a Green March from Forest Headquarter FRMC Building Narwal to Environment Park in which a large number of school children and other stakeholders participated to create awareness about the need to bring about behavioural changes in the citizens to make the lifestyle environment friendly. Mission LiFE has been taken across India with the initiative of the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India to bring out desired changes in the lifestyle of citizens as to reduce burden on environment and contribute towards the environmental conservation and protection.
Pr. Chief Conservator of Forests J&K, Roshan Jaggi, on the occasion informed about various initiatives taken by Forest Department like afforestation under “Green JK Drive”, “Har-Gaon Hariyali”,“Paid Lagoh Beti Ke Naam” which have been yielding good results with the active involvement of local people. Van-Se Jal, Jal Se Jeevan, Forest for recreation, Wetland Conservation are other initiatives, department has been undertaking to achieve the targets mitigation of climate change effects and reducing the emissions of carbon due to enhanced anthropogenic activities.
O.P Sharma, IFS retired PCCF and Environmental activist also spoke on this occasion and explained about the role of citizens especially children in protecting the environment, conserving water bodies. On this occasion a “Milestone” on completion of 13 years of Tree-Talk Campaign was inaugurated. Tree-Talk is a people’s movement aiming at creative awareness about forest protection, afforestation and environmental conservation by involving people from different sections of society. It is led by O.P Sharma. Participants were given certificates of participation on this occasion.
