Srinagar, Jun 02: Mohammad Yousuf Akash, a senior leader of the Peoples’ Conference, along with dozens of his supporters, formally joined the Indian National Congress (INC), the latter said on Monday.
The joining ceremony took place at the party office here in the presence of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra and other senior leaders.
Karra welcomed Akash and his supporters into the Congress fold, congratulating them on their decision. He said the party’s focus is on inclusive service and empowerment.
“Akash, who currently serves as Secretary for Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency in the Peoples’ Conference, hails from the Khansaheb area of district Budgam. He is a well-known political figure with considerable acceptance across Kashmir, and his entry into Congress is seen as a boost to the party’s efforts to strengthen its presence in the region,” according to a statement issued here.
Karra praised Akash’s decision, calling it a positive step, and urged the new members to dedicate themselves to public service with zeal and integrity. “The Congress Party remains committed to serving the aspirations of the people and safeguarding their rights without discrimination,” he said.
Among those present at the event were senior Congress leaders such as Surinder Singh Channi, Abdul Gani Khan, Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, Abid Imtiyaz Bhat (GSO), district presidents Irfan Naqib and Er Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, media coordinator Audil Farooq Mir (Lasjan), Mir Ruvais, Moulvi Maqbool, Seerat Bashir, and other party functionaries. They warmly welcomed Akash and his supporters into the party.
Karra said Congress continues to be the voice of the people, working tirelessly for their betterment and protection of their rights. He expressed confidence that the new entrants will contribute positively to the party’s mission in Kashmir.
