Baramulla, May 10: The residents of Sherabad Khore in the Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district staged a protest against the authorities for failing to macadamize the Hanjiveera-Magam road.
The protesters accused the administration of showing stepmotherly treatment to their area.
“The administration is macadamizing roads and beautifying the places that are already in good condition in view of the upcoming G20 Summit, but our area has been completely ignored,” they said.
Scores of residents from Sherabad Khore and adjoining areas held placards and demanded immediate repair of the vital road which connects Baramulla with Budgam district.
Blocking the road at Khore for several hours, they said the road is currently in a dilapidated condition, making it difficult for thousands of commuters and transporters who use it on a daily basis.
“We are facing immense problems due to this road which is in shambles. Despite multiple requests to the authorities to macadamize the vital road, nothing is being done. Our pleas are not heard,” said Irshad Ahmad Mir, a local resident of Khore Pattan.
“The road was macadamized a year ago and it lasted for only 3 months not to talk of years,” Mir said, adding that the road is unsuitable even for pedestrians, let alone vehicles, due to the numerous potholes present throughout.
The protesters urged the Lieutenant Governor-led administration to take immediate action and address the issue, saying the road has become a nuisance for the residents as well as transporters, especially during rains.
Meanwhile, SE PMGSY, Mohammad Ayub has assured that the authorities have taken notice of the deteriorating condition of the road and it will be repaired after improvement in weather conditions.
