Srinagar, Sept 09: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) on Saturday reiterated that it aims to win the hearts and minds of people in Jammu and Kashmir if elected to power in upcoming assembly elections.
According to a party statement issued here, DPAP held party conventions in Kathpora, Sumbal, Sonwari and Wachi. Speaking to a gathering of party workers in Sumbal, the senior party leader and vice chairman G M Saroori said, “Whatever the facilities in social sectors are available right now have been mostly developed by Ghulam Nabi Azad as chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.”
“Even when Azad was a health minister in the Union government, he sanctioned various medical colleges for the erstwhile state. This is called the vision for its people unlike those who exploit the sentiments of people for pity issues like ration cards, etc,” he said.
Saroori said Jammu and Kashmir requires sustainable developmental measures and short-term cosmetic initiatives won’t ever work to eradicate unemployment and economic woes of people.
Meanwhile, DPAP held a public meeting in Drachoo, Wachi Constituency, Shopian to discuss party preparations ahead of Urban-Local-Bodies and Panchayat elections. The meeting was held under the supervision of Provincial President Kashmir DPAP Mohammad Amin Bhat.
Zonal President South Kashmir, Gulzar Ahmed Wani, District President Mushtaq Khanday laid emphasis on party strengthening at grassroots levels and asked workers to reach out to people and start door-to-door campaigns.
“Our party leader has so many projects in mind and I am sure once those projects are implemented on the ground, the poverty will be erased and abundant job opportunities will be created to make the UT progressive,” Amin Bhatt said.
He said that DPAP is successful in pulling large crowds while other parties are holding closed-door meetings since they have lost public faith and fear embarrassment due to the thin attendance of people in functions. “You can see anywhere in Jammu Kashmir that DPAP is the only party holding openly party functions since it has a huge following. Other parties are unable to pull the workers to the venues due to which they hold closed-door meetings only,” Gulzar Wani said.
