Srinagar, May 12: The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu, Anand Jain on Sunday said that in the ongoing probe following the brave sacrifice of VDG personnel Mohammad Sharif, one suspect has been apprehended by the police.
He said that the accused has been identified as Javed Ahmad and was arrested at LohaNathi area of Kathua district.
ADGP Jain said that the investigation continues while this arrest marks a crucial breakthrough as he was involved in aiding terrorists.
Earlier sketches of six terrorists involved in the incident were created by Udhampur Police. A cash reward is also offered for providing vital information,” ADJP Jain said.
According to police, six terrorists who infiltrated from Pakistan into the Basantgarh area of Udhampurdistrict, shot dead a village defence guard (VDG) in a gunfight before fleeing deep into the forest.
SSP Udhampur, Joginder Singh announced the first breakthrough in the case with the arrest of an overground worker, who had provided logistic support to the terrorists.
Singh said the sketches of the six terrorists, two of whom are believed to be brothers, were prepared based on the inputs from various agencies, the public and questioning of the suspected persons.
He further said that the Police hope the people will come forward and help the security agencies to neutralize the terrorists.
Village Defence Guard MohdSharief was killed in an encounter with the terrorists following a Cordon and Search Operation in Panara village of Basantgarh on April 28.
Meanwhile, a massive search operation is going on in the area to flush out the terrorists in the region.
