Handwara, Dec 18: The prolonged non-availability of an Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in Handwara is creating severe challenges for residents of the subdivision. The issue arose after the former ADC was transferred and appointed as additional secretary to the Chief Minister’s Office over a month ago, leaving the post vacant.
Expressing their resentment, locals said they had hoped for better governance following the new government’s formation. However, the transfer of the ADC without assigning a replacement has led to an accumulation of pending cases and delays in addressing public grievances.
Dr. Sheikh Jamshid, a resident of Handwara, highlighted his struggle to resolve a minor issue requiring the ADC’s intervention. “I have been waiting for two weeks, hoping the post would be filled soon, but it seems no one is concerned about our suffering,” he lamented.
Another resident noted that cases related to land disputes and other important matters remain unresolved due to the absence of an official authorized to sign off on decisions. Employees at the ADC office reportedly stated they could not proceed without an ADC to validate their work.
A local from Rajwar shared his plight of waiting since early November for a dependent certificate essential for his employment. “We have been struggling to obtain this vital document due to the non-availability of the ADC,” he said.
The situation has left residents feeling neglected, with some accusing the government of forgetting the importance of this crucial administrative position.
The people of Handwara are now demanding the immediate appointment of an ADC to address their grievances and ensure the smooth functioning of administrative processes in the area.
