Jammu, June 07: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri while congratulating Col Priyanka Singh, the first Woman Commanding Officer of the Army Service Corps (ASC) Battalion in the Northern Command, said Indian Army has set an example of Nari Shakti by appointing Col Priyanka at such a strategic position.
Suri said that appointment of a woman officer at a frontline Divisional ASC Battalion wherein she will be responsible for providing intimate supplies and transport cover to the soldiers on borders is an example of equality, women empowerment, and display of strength. This also signifies the recognition of women’s capabilities and their invaluable contribution to defence and security of the nation, he said.
He said the appointment of Col Priyanka will go a long way in encouraging our daughters to serve the nation even on the frontlines.
“While the Northern Command has mentioned itself as a proud army base to have such a brilliant and fearless officer, Col Priyanka Singh’s achievements are quite unique and inspiring. Her passion and courage serve as a great motivation for many other women of our Nation and India feels proud of her daughters,” the BJP leader said.
Suri said the first woman to be appointed as CO in ASC is a matter of celebration and salutes the spirit of women achievers like Col Singh. He said the Union Government has already directed the Defence Ministry to organise an All-Women Republic Day Parade in 2024, which shows the government’s faith in Nari Shakti.
“The 2024 parade will see only women taking part in all the activities on the Kartavya Path. This is for the first time that such a decision has been taken by any government in the country, which is quite applauding and praiseworthy,” he said.
