Ganderbal, Jan 3: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Paul Singh Friday stated that no vehicle without anti-skid chains will be allowed to enter Sonamarg.
He stated this after conducting a detailed review of the SSG road in Sonamarg to assess its condition amid ongoing winter challenges. The SSP said he was accompanied by DTI Sonamarg, Kangan and other traffic police personnel.
Before proceeding to Sonamarg, the SSP checked vehicles en-route, ensuring strict compliance with safety measures. He emphasized that vehicles without anti-skid chains will not be permitted to proceed to the Sonmarg, a step towards prioritizing safety given the hazardous conditions.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Singh said: “I visited Sonamarg to review the SSG Road conditions. Vehicles without anti-skid chains will not be allowed to proceed to Sonamarg from now onwards. We have deployed our personnel along the stretch to ensure no one faces difficulties.”
With the Meteorological Department predicting fresh snowfall, the SSP assured preparedness to address the challenges posed by adverse weather. He urged vehicle owners to cooperate with the police and ensure the use of anti-skid chains while traveling to Sonamarg. “The road still has icy and frozen patches, and caution is essential for everyone’s safety,” he added.
Earlier, police and the local administration especially Tehsildar Gund had directed the local vendors to ensure availability of anti-skid chains for the vehicles ferrying tourists to Sonamarg.
