Kulgam, Feb 20: Special Monitor of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Rakesh Asthana, visited Vessu Kashmiri Pandit Colony today in a move aimed at understanding the community’s concerns and addressing their grievances.
During his visit, Asthana engaged in open and direct discussions with the colony’s residents. He listened attentively to their issues and demands, which reportedly covered a range of topics, including, living conditions, security, rehabilitation and other grievances.
Asthana was accompanied by senior officials, including DIG South Kashmir Altaf Ahmad Khan, Deputy Commissioners Kulgam and Anantnag, Athar Aamir Khan and Syeed Fakhruddin Hamid respectively, and SSP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal. Their presence suggests a coordinated effort by the administration to address the concerns raised by the Vessu community.
Deputy Commissioner of Kulgam reportedly briefed Mr. Asthana on the current status of migrant colonies being established in the areas of Mirhama, Chawgam, and Vessu. This briefing likely provided context for the Special Monitor’s visit and helped him understand the broader efforts surrounding the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits.
