Srinagar, Oct 30: National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq on Wednesday said the party will not participate in UT Foundation Day celebrations scheduled for Thursday, October 31, 2024.
Speaking to reporters here, Tanvir said the NC does not accept the UT Foundation Day. We believe the 2019 changes were “wrong, baseless, unconstitutional, and immoral”, he said.
Sadiq further said that the legacy of the Darbar Move must be revived and directly linked the matter to the statehood restoration. “We hope that it will be done as soon as possible,” he said.
He said there is a lot to be done in those five years. “Our government is committed to fulfilling promises made to the people,” he said, adding that issues like electricity, ration supply and the status of Article 370 need to be addressed.
Speaking on public expectations for quick resolutions, the MLA said that everything will be done with a careful approach to governance.
Replying to a question on clashes in Gurez between the NC and BJP supporters, he said, “It is BJP’s mistake. Police must take action against those involved,” he said.
Sadiq said that MLA Gurez, Nazir Khan represents all people of his constituency, not just one party. “Incidents like Gurez reflect broader issues within the political climate,” he said and advised opposition parties to refrain from creating chaos.
