Srinagar, July 07: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah has said the Sikh community has left an indelible mark on the history of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Their enduring legacy was a testament to their unwavering commitment to the syncretic traditions of the region. Their steadfast dedication to upholding the banner of brotherhood during the most tumultuous times,” he said while addressing the Gurmat Samagam at Yadgar Shri Sant Bhai Bahadur Singh ji Dharamsala in Khari, Poonch.
Dr Farooq was accompanied by the party Member Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad, Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta, YNC Provincial President Ajaz Jan, Minority Wing Coordinator Sardar Jagdish Singh Azad, and others. On the occasion, Harcharan Singh Khalsa presented a memorandum of demands to the party president.
In his address to the devotees, the NC Chief said, “The contributions of Sikhs have not only shaped the cultural landscape of the region but have also served as a beacon of hope and unity in the face of adversity. The Sikhs stand as a shining example of resilience and strength, their presence a reminder of the power of unity in the face of adversity.”
Dr Abdullah said the National Conference remains committed to providing identical opportunities for educated Sikh youth. “The need of the hour calls for recognising and addressing the unique challenges and barriers faced by the Sikh community which remain unattended by the successive non-NC governments since 2015,” he said, adding, “We will work towards creating a more inclusive and welcoming society for all individuals, regardless of their background or beliefs.”
