Srinagar, Aug 03: As the temperature rises, the residents of various areas in Natipora, Srinagar are grappling with a severe water crisis, despite the government’s claims of achieving 100 percent success in the Jal Jeevan Mission in the district.
The inhabitants of Shahi Hamdan colony, Faizabad, and NaikBagh have voiced their concern to Rising Kashmir, stating that they have been deprived of drinking water facilities for several days now, leading to immense suffering for the residents.
A local resident, Showket Ahmad expressed agony, revealing that the issue has persisted for the past ten days, and the concerned department has shown no interest in resolving the matter. He lamented the lack of attention and communication from authorities despite repeated complaints, highlighting that the affected areas, being situated between Budgam and Srinagar districts, seem to receive neglect from the authorities.
Another aggrieved resident shed light on the frequent damage to their water pumps, exacerbating the inconvenience faced by those residing at the tail end of the distribution system.
The residents of these areas have pleaded with higher authorities to intervene and direct the concerned department to address the water crisis urgently.
“The Jal Jeevan Mission, launched by the government to ensure the availability of clean and adequate drinking water for all households, seems to be falling short of its promises in Natipora,” said Khurshid Ahmad of native of Naikbagh.
He said, “Despite the mission’s ambitious objectives, the residents’ reality paints a different picture, emphasizing the need for immediate action to alleviate their suffering.”
