Baramulla, Jan 22: A traffic awareness programme and rally were organised on Wednesday in Baramulla Town and Pattan as part of National Road Safety Month 2025.
The event was conducted under the supervision of SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, along with DySP Traffic Baramulla/Kupwara. More than 120 individuals, including religious leaders, civil society members, senior citizens, and drivers, participated in the event.
A traffic police spokesman said that the rally is aimed to encourage public cooperation with the traffic police and emphasises the importance of following traffic and road safety regulations. Participants were reminded to always carry valid driving licenses and other necessary documents.
“The rally also focused on discouraging over-speeding, dangerous driving, overtaking, overloading, and stressed the prohibition of minors driving under any circumstances,” he said.
The spokesman said that special attention was given to the importance of wearing safety gear, particularly helmets, which significantly reduce the risk of head injuries in accidents. Bikers were urged to wear helmets at all times, including for pillion riders, and avoid stunts or reckless riding that endanger lives, he said.
With ongoing construction work on the National Highway, participants were asked to cooperate with the traffic police for better traffic management and safer roads.
