Srinagar, Jan 14: Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Tuesday highlighted the importance of cultural development in Jammu and Kashmir, saying artists and performers play a crucial role in preserving and promoting the region’s heritage.
Speaking at an event, Aslam highlighted the significance of strengthening cultural institutions, saying, “Culture is the biggest sector in our society. Every nation’s cultural creation has a huge role in its portrayal. We have seen a surge in cultural activities, and we want to encourage local talent.”
He said the region possesses immense artistic potential that, if nurtured properly, could gain recognition across the country. “The talent we have here is unparalleled. It must be encouraged so that Jammu and Kashmir’s name shines on the national stage while portraying our rich culture,” he added.
Addressing political developments, Aslam responded to criticism of the government, particularly from opposition parties. He defended Chief Minister Omar Abdullah against allegations that he was aligning with the BJP, saying that opposition parties focus on criticism rather than constructive engagement.
“Some in the opposition need to reflect on their own actions. The challenges we face today are a result of past decisions. Had they been handled wisely, we might not have been in this situation,” he asserted.
The CM’s Advisor expressed hope for a brighter future, mentioning aspirations for economic growth, a flourishing tourism industry, and a prosperous horticulture sector. “We have endured decades of turmoil, but we believe progress is ahead. We pray for the removal of negativity from our hearts and minds,” he concluded. (KNS)
