Srinagar, Feb 16: PHDCCI-Kashmir in association with the Directorate of Handicraft & Handloom Kashmir and with the support of the Department of Commerce-Ministry of Commerce & Industry Government of India conducted the 15th two-day capacity building programme for the NAMDA artisans of district Kulgam on February 14 and 15.
The programme was attended by more than 70 Namda artisans from different areas of the district. The artisans acquired knowledge and awareness about quality improvement, design development, e-commerce, digital marketing and the importance of packaging.
Amina Asad, Chief Designer, School of Design Handicraft & Handloom Department Kashmir along with her team of master trainers explained to the artisans the importance of perfection in designs, the creation of refined designs for export quality, new & innovative design development and quality improvement. She assured full support and help to artisans who were asked to visit the School of Designs where they will be shown the new design patterns and colour scheme of Namdas.
Dr. Shakeel, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies, IUST, Awantipora, explained to artisans the concept of marketing and the scope of digital marketing. He explained to the artisans the importance of packaging for handicrafts, particularly for Namda.
While applauding the role of the Handicraft Department and PHDCCI-K for arranging such a “wonderful” awareness workshop, the artisans said they have gained and enriched a lot through this two-day programme and will adopt the techniques learnt.
Stressing the need for such interventions, Adil Yousuf Wani, Assistant Director Handicrafts and Handloom Kulgam and Shopian, said, “There is a dire need to regenerate traditional crafts and textiles, thus upholding the cultural and the traditional heritage of Kashmir. We have witnessed how artisans have come back with amazing creativity with just a little handholding and training. Platforms like these give them an opportunity to upskill and showcase their products. I am glad that PHDCCI and the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom will play a major part in enhancing the business prospects of artisans.”
