The newly elected member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Langate constituency, Sheikh Khurshid, has outlined his key priorities for his constituency.
In an exclusive conversation with Rising Kashmir, Khurshid stated that his focus will be on upgrading the education sector, improving health facilities, promoting tourism, and addressing the pressing issue of potable drinking water.
He also stated that there is a need of better road connectivity and overall infrastructure development to enhance the quality of life for the residents.
Sheikh Khurshid, who has been actively touring various parts of his constituency, said he is in direct contact with the people to understand their needs and concerns. He identified the lack of adequate potable drinking water as one of the most urgent problems faced by the residents.
“Providing clean drinking water will be my top priority,” he said, acknowledging the gravity of the issue.
Additionally, Khurshid called for a debate in the Assembly on the reservation policy, which he believes has led to a grave injustice for the general category. “There should be a discussion on this matter, and I will advocate for a more balanced approach that considers the rights of all communities,” he stated, emphasizing his commitment to addressing this sensitive issue.
Regarding education, the MLA highlighted his vision to modernize the sector by upgrading school infrastructure and constructing well-equipped libraries across the constituency. “Soon, students will have access to libraries every 4-5 kilometres, and each village panchayat will be provided with a well-maintained playground,” Khurshid promised.
He also expressed his support for youth interested in sports like Kabaddi and Volleyball, adding that modern courts for these games would be constructed in the Langate.
Tourism holds vast potential in Langate. He plans to explore and develop this sector to attract visitors, which in turn will boost the local economy and create employment opportunities.
“The scenic beauty and unexplored tourist spots in Langate can become major attractions with the right infrastructure and promotion,” he noted.
