Seeks prompt action to address situation
Srinagar, Feb 20: National Conference (NC) Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq on Thursday raised concerns regarding the erosion of the pavement near Ghat No. 17 on Boulevard, emphasising the need for prompt action to address the situation.
During his visit to the area where the entire pathway had been washed away into Dal Lake, Tanvir promptly contacted DC Srinagar and other relevant authorities to address the situation and ensure the safety of pedestrians, the party said in a statement issued here.
Tanvir expressed the disappointment felt by the general public, saying, “This is a clear failure that we cannot be proud of. The issue has arisen after the completion of works under the smart city projects. The Chief Minister’s office is taking the matter seriously and action will be taken. The top priority now is to restore the pathway, with officers committed to commencing work this evening and inspecting other areas with similar issues to ensure the safety of people.”
Reflecting on how the NC was one of the first to voice concerns about the Smart Street project, Tanvir said, “We had identified the flaws early on and even organised a press conference to address them. The project was rushed, and the timeline provided for such extensive infrastructure projects, such as roads and buildings, was unattainable. Now, we are witnessing the consequences as substandard construction is being revealed. From the beginning, we could discern the poor quality of work in the Srinagar Smart City project. Today, our apprehensions have been validated.”
