Miscreants open fire in Jammu, demand ransom

Jammu, Apr 28: In a shocking incident, unidentified miscreants opened fire indiscriminately in RS Pura and Miran Sahib areas of Jammu late Saturday night, allegedly to intimidate residents into extorting money from them.
Addressing a press conference at DPL Jammu, SSP Jammu, Vinod Kumar, disclosed that the miscreants fired in these areas with the intention of frightening a specific group of people into paying ransom. “The incidents occurred at Khajuria Food Mall in Miran Sahib and the Chohalla area of RS Pura within a two-hour timeframe,” the SSP said.
“Acting swiftly, the police, with the help of CCTV footage of different areas, arrested three main accused and recovered a Desikatta along with live cartridges,” the SSP said.
He said that no one was injured in the firing by two pistol-borne youth who reportedly came on a motorcycle at the Miran Sahib area.
They said the suspected criminals enquired about the shop owner, who was not present at the time of the incident.
Before leaving the spot, they fired several rounds and one of the bullets also hit the shop’s glass counter, officials said.
In this regard, a Case FIR No. 44/307 336 34 IPC, & 3/25, 3/27 Arms Act has been registered in PS Miran Sahib and a Case FIR No 74/2024 U/S 452/307/34, IPC & 3/25, 3/27 Arms Act was registered in PS RS Pura and investigation started, the SSP said.
He said Police teams were formed which raided at various places in the jurisdiction of Police Station Miran Sahib and RS Pura based upon the developed human intelligence and technical surveillance, put in place to nab the miscreants.
Through meticulous analysis of CCTV footage and diligent investigative work, the police identified and apprehended three key suspects: Guga and Krrish from RS Pura, along with KulbirBhagat alias Rinku from Langotiyan, RS Pura. During interrogation, the accused admitted to their involvement in the incidents.
