Pulwama, July 2: District Officer Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Pulwama, Talib Hussain, on Wednesday underscored the significant role of the media in promoting sports activities at the grassroots level.Speaking on the occasion of World Sports Journalists Day, Hussain said the Department of Youth Services and Sports engages thousands of boys and girls each year in various activities under its annual calendar. “It gives me immense pleasure to share that sports activities in every zone of Pulwama receive extensive coverage by the media,” he said. Hussain further emphasised the need for collaboration between the media and the Department of Youth Services and Sports in identifying raw talent, providing competitive opportunities and showcasing young achievers. “The Department acknowledges and deeply appreciates the role of the media in spreading awareness, which has led many young boys and girls to view sports as a viable career option,” he said. He also commended the media fraternity for their efforts in raising awareness about the menace of drug addiction. “The media has amplified this crucial message, taking it to every household and making people realize the importance of eradicating this social evil from our society,” he said.
