In a joint operation, the Indian Army and Handwara Police recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the Wodhpura near NH 701 on monday morning.
According to officials, Acting on credible intelligence, the Indian Army and Handwara Police swiftly initiated a Search and Destruction Operation (SADO) in the Wodhpura Forest.
The operation led to the discovery of two sophisticated IEDs weighing approximately 5 and 7 kilograms, concealed within the forest area. The security forces immediately established a cordon and implemented necessary security measures.
The Indian Army’s expert Explosive Detection Team, equipped with specialized detectors and trained army dogs, positively identified the IEDs. A controlled detonation was subsequently carried out by the Bomb Disposal Team, rendering the explosives safe.
The search operation in the wider vicinity of the Wodhpura Forest resumed, with personnel from the Indian Army and Handwara Police diligently combing the area for additional IEDs or hiding militants. Fortunately, no casualties or damage to life or property were reported. The swift and decisive action by the joint security forces successfully averted a major incident in the region.
