Srinagar, Feb 13: Following the dip in temperatures, Jammu recorded a low of 3.6°C and which was the second lowest temperature during the past decade in the region, while Gulmarg recorded minus 11.0 °C.
The Meteorological department has forecasted dry and clear weather to continue till 17th February. On Monday night, minimum temperatures in Valley dropped below the freezing point at various places, while Jammu recorded second lowest temperature in February at 3.6 degrees Celsius since 2012.
The MeT department official said the minimum temperature in most stations of Kashmir valley settled below freezing point. We are expecting dry weather and there is no forecast of any major snow spell till 17th Feb,” he said.
As per MeT data, Srinagar recorded 10.20 °C as the maximum and minus 4.0 °C as the minimum temperature. Ski-resort Gulmarg recorded 1.2 °C maximum temperature and minus 11.0 °C as the minimum temperature.
Health resort Pahalgam recorded 7.0°C and a minimum of minus 10.0°C degrees. Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 9.2 °C, while minimum temperatures settled at minus 5.7 °C
Jammu recorded a low of 3.6°C against 5.8°C on the previous night. It was 6.5°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital. Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 16.8°C and minus 19.8°C respectively, the official said.
Faizan Arif Keng, an independent weather forecaster said the all-time lowest temperature in the month of February has been recorded on 01 February 1929 at 1.1 degrees Celsius.
Jammu recorded the second-lowest temperature in the month of February at 3.6 degrees Celsius. This is the second coldest night Jammu has recorded in a decade.
As per data it recorded 3.2 degrees Celsius on February 08, 2012, and on Monday night it settled at 3.6 degrees Celsius last night.
He added overall, today’s minimum temperatures are the lowest recorded in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 26 days.
As per the traffic advisory for Tuesday, two-way traffic will ply on both sides of the Srinagar-Jammu highway.
“Subject to fair weather and better road condition, LMVs(Passenger) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic,” it said.
Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) on Monday issued an avalanche warning for four districts of Kashmir division, advising people against venturing out into the avalanche-prone areas.
A JKDMA spokesperson said that an avalanche with low danger level is likely to occur above 2400 to 2800 metres above sea level over Ganderbal, Bandipore, Baramulla and Kupwara districts in next 24 hours.
“People living in these areas are advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche-prone areas till further orders”, he said.
