Ganderbal, Aug 06: The ongoing Annual Amarnath Yatra has witnessed an inspiring act of compassion and safety-consciousness.
Langer owners at the Baltal base camp have taken the initiative to distribute free helmets to pilgrims, aiming to protect them from the potential hazards of falling stones during the journey.
With a footfall of more than four lakh pilgrims over the past month, this gesture has emerged as a beacon of safety and goodwill. The Langer owners have not only been providing food, drink, and shelter to the pilgrims but have gone a step further to prioritize their safety.
Swami Ji, one of the Langer owners, shared his motivation behind this crucial initiative. “I vividly recall an unfortunate incident where a woman lost her life due to a falling stone during the yatra a few years ago. This incident deeply moved me, compelling me to take action to safeguard the lives of pilgrims. That’s why I decided to make helmets available for the devotees,” he stated.
Every day, thousands of pilgrims are equipped with helmets before embarking on their journey from Baltal to the Amarnath Cave. Swami Ji’s selfless dedication to ensuring the safety of pilgrims is palpable through the distribution of around 10,000 helmets, ensuring that these essential protective gear pieces are readily accessible.
In a heartwarming display of unity and responsibility, pilgrims who have completed their journey return these helmets to the Langer owners, knowing that they are meant for the next group of devotees. This remarkable act of passing along the helmets further underscores the spirit of community during the pilgrimage.
Reflecting on the profound impact of their actions, Swami Ji expressed his gratitude, saying, “We consider ourselves fortunate to be working towards preserving precious lives. Our goal is not just to feed the pilgrims but to ensure they return home safely after their spiritual journey.” He earnestly urged all pilgrims to use the helmets provided, emphasizing that this precautionary measure could potentially save lives by guarding against stonefall incidents.
