Srinagar, Oct 08: Today marks a significant triumph for the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference as we, in partnership with the Congress party, achieved a resounding victory in the LAHDC Kargil elections, dealing a clear defeat to the BJP. This victory is a testament to the unwavering support of the people of Zanskar, Kargil, and Drass, who have wholeheartedly endorsed the National Conference-Congress alliance.
This was stated by NC Vice President and former chief minister of J&K Omar Abdullah in a statement issued here on Sunday.
Omar said, “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the elected councillors for their dedication to serving the people. This success would not have been possible without the relentless efforts of our party workers, who persevered through challenging conditions, ensuring that the JKNC flag would soar high on the day of reckoning. Their commitment and hard work have truly paid off.”
This victory is more than just a political win; it is a message to all forces and parties that have undemocratically and unconstitutionally divided the state of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh without the consent of its people, he said, adding, “Democracy demands that the voices of the people be heard and respected. The people have spoken, and their message is clear: they desire a democratically elected government in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Expressing gratitude to the Congress party for their “unwavering support” throughout this alliance, Abdullah said, “Together, we have demonstrated the power of unity and democracy. We urge the Bharatiya Janata Party to heed this wake-up call, cease hiding behind the Raj Bhawan and unelected representatives, and acknowledge the rightful aspirations of the people.”
“The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference remains steadfast in its commitment to the principles of democracy, justice, and unity. We will continue working tirelessly to uphold these values and serve the best interests of the people of our region,” he said.
