New Delhi, January 15: Union Minister of State (IC) for the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Science, and Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Dr Jitendra Singh, highlighted the fast-track development in Ladakh under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A delegation led by LAHDC-Kargil Councillor Stanzin Lakpa conveyed gratitude to PM Modi for the region’s rapid progress since attaining Union Territory (UT) status in October 2019.
Dr Jitendra Singh emphasized that the Modi government has accorded high priority to Ladakh’s development and the welfare of its local population, including Buddhists and tribals. He noted that Ladakh faced neglect and abandonment for decades before the current government’s interventions.
Under the Modi government, Ladakh has received significant infrastructure, including a university, Hotel Management Institute, and professional colleges. Dr Jitendra Singh announced a special development package of Rs 50 crore for Ladakh, emphasizing unprecedented funding for various projects in the region.
The minister highlighted key initiatives, such as establishing an exclusive UPSC Civil Services Examination Centre in Leh, promoting “Leh Berry” as a unique food product of the cold desert, and facilitating the commercial cultivation of medicinal plants at high altitudes.
Dr Singh mentioned the upcoming South East Asia’s first Night Sky Sanctuary at Hanle village, Eastern Ladakh, enhancing astro-tourism. He also discussed the Department of Atomic Energy’s plans to set up facilities for Gamma Irradiation Technology, promoting the export of Ladakhi apricots.
The minister praised PM Modi’s vision for Ladakh, emphasizing transformative steps that align with the region’s socio-economic and environmental needs. The delegation expressed optimism about Ladakh’s continued progress under the government’s strategic and development-focused approach.
