Kulgam, Feb 11: Momin Ishaq Teli, an 11-year-old resident of the remote village of Munad Gufan in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, has emerged as a budding innovator despite hailing from a below-average-income family.
Following the success of two previous inventions, Momin has now created a new innovation aimed at providing early warning signals for fire mishaps and gas leakages. His latest creation reflects his dedication to preventing potentially dangerous fire incidents.
Building upon his previous accomplishments, Momin’s multitasking machine activates in response to mishaps involving the traditional Kashmiri fire pot (Kangri) or any other fire incidents, which often escalate into major emergencies. Momin’s machine provides both light and sound alerts when such incidents occur, with additional features including a battery backup capable of powering up to 20 bulbs.
Speaking about the inspiration behind his invention, Momin recounted an incident where a tea kettle boiled over on an electric heater, causing significant gas buildup in the room. This event sparked his idea to develop a machine that could detect and alert users to such hazardous situations.
“The machine has built-in heat control, humidity meter (HTC 1), which I used in the incubator too. I did some home improvisation too, using a fan pipe in it which removes the gas or fog inside the room,” he said, adding that an old TV set’s box is used in it.
Momin has appealed to the new Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, for support to continue his innovative work and develop new machines to benefit society.
In a message to fellow young people, Momin encourages them to harness their talents for the betterment of society.
