Srinagar, Nov 29: The Meteorological Department on Friday forecasted possibility of rain, snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir valley on Saturday and it will bring relief from cold weather conditions in the region.
Director MeT Srinagar, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that from 30th November, there is possibility of light rain and light snow over higher reaches at many places of Kashmir.
“Weather will remain mainly cloudy with light rain and snow over higher reaches at isolated places towards till 1st December morning,” he said.
Similarly, from 2-3rd Dec, weather will remain generally cloudy with light rain and snow (higher reaches) at scattered places towards late evening of 2nd to 3rd.
He said from 02 & 03 December Razdan top , Sadhana top , Sinthan top, Peer ki Gali and Zojila pass can see a moderate snowfall and light rain in plains.
The weather is likely to stay generally dry from December 4-7, after which light rain or light snow is possible at isolated places in the higher reaches over two days from December 8.
Meanwhile the department has advised tourists, travellers, and transporters are to follow traffic advisory.
He said that there was slight improvement in minimum temperatures over many stations of Kashmir division due to cloudiness.
“Shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue till November 29 over many places of Kashmir division,” he said.
On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir experienced dry and partially cloudy weather across the Valley. The entire region was shrouded in dense fog during early morning and evening, resulting in a chilly breeze and a drop in daytime temperatures.
As per MeT data, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 1 degrees Celsius, up from the previous night’s minus 2.1 degrees Celsius. Qazigund recorded a low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius.
The minimum in Pahalgam tourist resort settled at minus 3.4 degrees Celsius — the coldest weather station in the valley. Gulmarg registered a low of zero degrees Celsius, while Kupwara minus 0.4 degrees Celsius.
Kokernag in south Kashmir was the only weather station in the valley where the minimum settled above the freezing point at 0.6 degrees Celsius, the officials said.
Meanwhile during the past 24 hours, there was slow movement observed on NH-44 due to breakdown of 04 HMVs, single lane traffic at Dalwas, Mehad and between Marog & Kishtwari Pather.
On Saturday, subject to fair weather and better road conditions LMVs Passenger/Private Cars/HMVs shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) and TCU shall liaise with TCU Ramban for road condition.
The spokesman said vehicular movement (only LMVs) on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road shall be allowed from both sides viz from Anantnag towards Kishtwar and vice versa. These vehicles shall be allowed from Daksum and Chingam (Chatroo) between 1000 hrs to 1500 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timing.
Similarly traffic movement shall be allowed on regulated manner on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road. LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar at 0800 hrs. to 1130 hrs.
“LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 1330 hrs to 1800 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timing. Motorists are advised to carry anti-skid chain to gain more grip on the slippery road,” he added.
The vehicular movement (LMVs followed by HMVs upto 10 tyre) on Mughal road shall be allowed from both sides viz. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa. These vehicles shall be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) at 0700 hrs. upto 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut of timing.
