J&K’s Rehabilitation Council provides relief to victims of terrorism

Srinagar, Aug 09: The monthly financial assistance extended by Jammu and Kashmir Rehabilitation Council of the Social Welfare Department is proving to be much needed succour for the victims of terrorism across the UT.
Beneficiaries of this aid include special-abled persons, widows, and the old age persons affected by terrorism.
An official from the Social Welfare Department said that the Rehabilitation Council of the Social Welfare Department is providing monthly assistance to the victims of terrorism through various schemes.
 “On a monthly basis, a pension of Rs 1,000 is being provided to widows, elderly and special-abled persons, which is directly transferred into their accounts on a monthly basis, an official said. He said that the marriage assistance for the young widows and other women is being provided at a per-case rate of Rs 50,000, which is also transferred into their bank accounts.
 “In addition to the fixed targets for coverage of violence-affected victims, the council is also providing motorised tricycles to specially-abled persons in order to enhance their mobility. This facility has been provided free of cost to 2,607 specially-abled persons in Jammu and Kashmir and in Ladakh region, an official said. He said that during the years 2022-23, the council procured 2,832 units of motorised tricycles through the Director, State Motor Garages Jammu and Kashmir. The distribution of these tricycles recently was made by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at SKICC Srinagar.
 “The JK State Rehabilitation Council, in collaboration with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Department of Jammu and Kashmir Affairs, has been organising the youth exchange programme with help of its funding,” he said, adding that the a youth exchange programme “Watan Ko Jano,” has been one such initiative in which children of violence-affected victims and weaker sections of society in Jammu and Kashmir are participating.
