Srinagar, June 19: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated on Monday that the Jammu and Kashmir police has overcome challenges such as terrorism, law and order, and modernization, and has ensured that ordinary citizens live in the society without fear.
Addressing the players at ‘Jashn-e-Dal,’ a Jammu Kashmir Police-organized Water Sports event at SKICC Srinagar in which 700 participants competed in 20 categories of Kayaking, Canoeing, and Slalom, the LG Sinha praised the J&K Police for valuable contribution in nurturing young sporting talents and providing them with opportunities to realise their full creative potential through Civic Action Programmes.
“Despite hurdles and challenges, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully dealt terrorism, law and order and modernization to ensure common people live without fear,” the LG said.
“Today, one crore thirty lakh people of Jammu and Kashmir are moving forward in peace and prosperity. They are laying the groundwork for peace and development that will realise the dreams of the new Jammu and Kashmir, and youth and athletes will play an important role in this,” he said.
Dal Lake, according to LG Sinha, is more than a lake; it is a source of pride for the people. Those who have helped clean it should continue their efforts so that the Lake is thoroughly cleaned.
“In J&K, 60 lakh youth participated in various sports-related activities last year. Every day, sports activities or big tournaments are held in almost every district. I’d like to express my gratitude to the Youth Services Sports Department for their outstanding work,” he further added.
LG reaffirmed the UT Administration’s commitment to providing world-class facilities, coaching, and mentoring to Jammu Kashmir’s young sporting talents.
He stated that the UT administration has improved the sports infrastructure throughout J&K. Jammu and Kashmir has two international stadiums. “Every district and panchayat has volleyball and football turfs, as well as multi-purpose sports facilities,” he said.
“Srinagar has a new identity, and there is a discussion going on that Delhi should follow the Srinagar model in terms of development and restructuring,” LG Sinha said.
“The administration is laying the groundwork for J&K’s new sporting future.” “It is our collective responsibility to empower our athletes and assist the hidden talents in the villages in order for them to script shining successes in international sporting events,” he said.
LG stated that it is every athlete’s dream to be able to compete in sporting events, excel in their respective fields, and serve as a role model for the next generation. The ongoing sports activities give us hope and confidence that our players will achieve historic feats.
“The vibrant sports culture reflects the image of aspirational J&K, which is determined to build a better future for the young generation. Our athletes will play a significant role in this task and contribute in building a strong and prosperous Jammu Kashmir,” he added.
The Lt Governor reiterated the commitment of the UT Administration to provide world class facilities, coaching and mentoring to the young sporting talents of Jammu Kashmir.
He made a special mention of sports personalities from J&K for bringing laurels to the nation at the world stage. He also appreciated the efforts of the sports associations and stakeholder departments for the promotion of sports in the UT.
LG Sinha also called upon the people, especially the youth to discharge their duties and to contribute in Swachhta Abhiyan.
At the closing ceremony, the Lt Governor took the ceremonial salute at an impressive pedal pass and interacted with the players.
The event was attended by Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor; Dilbag Singh, DGP; R K Goyal, ACS, Home Department; RR Swain, Special DG CID;  SJM Gillani, ADGP J&K Armed Police, senior officials of Police and Civil Administration.
