Jammu, Oct 30: With the arrest of two persons, police in Jammu district claimed to have solved the drone dropping case.
A police official said that on the intervening nights of October 27-28, a suspicious movement of a drone was spotted in Baspur Bangla area of RS Pura Tehsil in Jammu district.
“Since the area is close to the fence, the information was shared with all the police stations and a dedicated officer led team was put on the job. The technical surveillance unit was also put on alert,” the police official said.
He said that all the vehicles which crossed the police checkpoints around that time were scrutinised.
“CCTV footage of the place and the roads leading to the general area were also checked. Physical pattern and technical analysis was also pursued thoroughly,” he said.
He further said that on the basis of analysis of different teams, a police team of RS Pura picked up a few suspects who were put to sustain questioning regarding their movement in the border belt particularly at a time when a drone was dropped in the area.
“During rounding up the suspects, Jammu Police was able to lay hands on one of the suspects, Chander Bose son of Vasdev of Doda. On his questioning he could not give any satisfactory reply regarding his movement towards the border on that particular time and date,” he said.
“When put to sustain questioning, he admitted that he had visited the suspected area, so as to receive a consignment of weapons dropped by drone,” said the police official.
The police official further said that during questioning, it came to fore that Bose was working at the behest of one Shamsher Singh son of Prem Singh of Camp Gole Gujral, Jammu.
“Both were in touch with an OGW, Balvinder of Jammu, now settled in Europe,” the police official said.
He said that the arrested persons and the OGW are working for a banned terrorist organisation.
“Balvinder was coordinating with both the accused in India and the handlers of the consignment in Pakistan,” added the police official.
Police have registered a case FIR number 196/2022 under sections 13, 16, 18 ULAP at RS Pura Police Station and recovered 4 pistols, 8 magazines, and 47 pistol rounds.
