Srinagar, Feb 03: A five-day workshop on Holistic Progress Cards (HPC) at the Secondary Stage and Standardization of Question Paper Templates was organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Board of School Education, in collaboration with PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development), NCERT, at Auditorium of JKBOSE, Bemina, Srinagar. This initiative, part of PARAKH’s mission aligned with NEP 2020 to promote equivalence across education boards, is being held from 03 to 07 February 2025. The overarching goal of the workshop is to empower participants with the skills needed to implement the HPC framework at the secondary level and to establish a cadre of trained paper-setters for future board examinations.
Participants will be encouraged to explore the intricacies of mapping the HPC to curricular goals and competencies as outlined in the National Curriculum Frameworks (NCFs). The workshop will also introduce a 3×3 rubric-based assessment system, featuring three levels of competency—basic, proficient, and advanced.
The workshop was inaugurated by Sudershan Kumar JKAS Secretary, JKBOSE, who emphasized the urgency and importance of this initiative and the role of teachers in transforming assessment practices and aligning them with holistic assessment for holistic development. “Not mere bookish knowledge but skills to handle various situations and critical acumen of the students should also be assessed for a holistic assessment. PARAKH focuses on overhauling of existing approach to education with innovative and competence based assessment methods for a holistic appraisal of the students, and we are also committed for this cause,” he added
In her keynote address (in virtual mode), Prof. Indrani Bhaduri, CEO of PARAKH expressed optimism about the commitment of State Boards in advancing assessment reform and praised the collaborative efforts to implement Holistic Progress Cards at the secondary stage and ensuring balanced question papers that promote equivalence among state boards. She underlined the need for collective efforts at the planning as well as at the implementation level for a fruitful outcome of this initiative of the govt.
Prof Sudhir Singh, Director Academics, JKBOSE, in his address, emphasized the need of aligning educational assessment and progress with the guidelines of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in order to enable students with skills and attitudes required to face the current and future challenges. “Viksit Bharat envisions vibrant citizens who can be produced only by an all-encompassing education system. Introduction of HPC shall be instrumental in assessing the overall development of a student,” he added.
Earlier the objective of the workshop was introduced by Dr. Arif Jan Deputy Director CDR Wing KD and Coordinator of the workshop. Over the course of five days, the workshop will focus on meeting the transformative assessment demands outlined in NEP 2020, particularly through the Holistic Assessment strategies and Equivalence of Boards. The program will include technical and hands-on sessions on creation of Assessment Rubrics as per HPC, deconstruction of State Question Papers, Assessment Design and Blueprint Creation , Question Paper Analysis and Framing of good Questions & Preparation of Model Question Papers. Dr Aliya Qayoom proposed the formal Vote of thanks. Mr. Iftikhar Imaran conducted the proceedings.
The training will be conducted by expert resource persons from PARAKH, NCERT with participation of eighty educators drawn from Government and Private secondary schools JKSCERT, DIETs across all districts of Kashmir Division of JKUT. This innovative approach aims to provide a more nuanced and holistic assessment of student progress, moving beyond rote learning to competency based assessment through group projects work, individual research work, and classroom interaction at secondary stage.
