J&K thrashes formidable Punjab to lift 15th NZ Softball C’ship title

Fatehgarh, Mar 06: Thrashing formidable Punjab by four homes to one (4-1) in the summit clash, the strong Jammu and Kashmir men’s team lifted the title trophy of 15th North Zone Softball Championship at Shri Guru Granth Sahab World University, Fatehgarh in Punjab.
The three-day Championship was organised by Punjab Softball Association under the aegis of Softball Association of India from March 3 to March 5. Displaying extraordinary skill and showing gut, grit and composure, the members of J&K team dominated the game from the word go and continued the brilliance till the outcome of the final result, thus winning the game by (4-1). S. Sakhram Singh, CEO FIL Industries was the chief guest on the Closing Ceremony, while Waseem Raja Khan, Joint Secretary Softball Association of India and Shrikant Thorat, Member Advisory Board Softball Association of India (SBAI) were the guests of honour, who distributed trophies and medals among the winners, runners-up and the third-place team.
While addressing the gathering he appreciated the players for their discipline and sporting spirit during this Northern India Softball Championship. General Secretary J&K Softball Association has praised the big role played by the Technical Staff and Coaches from J&K in guiding the team to convincing victory in the Championship.
“The Coaches and other allied Technical Staff including Harvinder Singh, Padam Dev Singh, Sudhir Singh, Yogesh Mahajan, Madan Mohan, Rawat Singh and Javeed Akhoon have played a pivotal role in improving the standard of Softball game in Jammu and Kashmir. The Technical Staff included outstanding Softball Athletes, NIS Coaches and one Harvinder Singh, who was the Chief Coach of Indian National Men’s Softball team which had toured Japan in 2023. He is also a Certified Level-A holder,” said Waseem Raja. He further said that J&K Softball Association is highly thankful to Nuzhat Gul, General Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council for encouraging Softball athletes to bring laurels for J&K UT.
