Srinagar, Dec 18: In line with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines, the Jammu and Kashmir Police are set to acquire advanced bomb squad vehicles, bullet-resistant light motor vehicles (LMVs), and other cutting-edge equipment to enhance their operational capabilities.
A senior police officer confirmed to Rising Kashmir that the department is in the process of procuring two specialized bomb squad vehicles for each region of the Union Territory. These state-of-the-art vehicles are equipped with advanced technology to support bomb disposal squads in safely handling explosive threats.

Additionally, under the ongoing modernization scheme, 40 bullet-resistant LMVs will be procured. The officer explained that these LMVs—both tactical and semi-tactical—are designed to offer enhanced mobility and protection for personnel during high-risk operations. This will enable the police to respond more effectively to threats across diverse terrains in the region.
As part of the procurement, the police will also receive night vision devices, including binoculars, to improve their ability to carry out surveillance and engage in counter-terror operations under low-light conditions. The addition of remote area lighting systems and cordon lights will further enhance visibility during night time missions, particularly in remote areas during anti-terror encounters.
“The procurement further includes night vision devices, and protective gear. These assets are expected to provide a substantial boost to the operational efficiency of the police force in combating terrorism and maintaining law and order,” he said.
“We are procuring protective gear with 2,767 bullet-resistant helmets slated for acquisition. These helmets are designed to provide critical head protection for officers during high-risk encounters, further ensuring their safety in the line of duty,” he added.
This strategic move to modernize the police force is in line with contemporary security needs and the introduction of cutting-edge technology for more effective law enforcement in the region.
Earlier this year, the J&K Police began the process of procuring 64,000 investigation kits and two specialized vehicles for the Bomb Disposal Squad as part of the ongoing modernization efforts.
The officer said this strategic move by Police aligns with contemporary security needs and introduction of cutting-edge technology for effective law enforcement in the region.
In October 2022, the J&K government constituted a six-member Union Territory level Empowered Committee headed by Financial Commissioner (ACS) Home for “deliberating upon modernization plan of Jammu and Kashmir Police under the scheme Assistance to States or UTs and approving it for submission to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Government of India.
It was aimed at strengthening police infrastructure by equipping the police with the required mobility, modern technology, weaponry, communication equipment, etc.
