JK admin spends Rs 2 cr daily for free treatment under PMJAY-SEHAT Scheme: LG Sinha

Srinagar, Sep 06: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Wednesday that the administration spends over 2 Crore rupees per day for treatment of patients under PMJAY-Sehat Scheme in which every family has been covered.
He was addressing the Health Camp, jointly organised by Rotary Club of India and J&K Health Department, in Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama, and Kulgam, to focus on surgery in the specialty of Ophthalmology, General and laparoscopic surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, ENT, plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, and cancer
LG Sinha said in the healthcare parameters, Jammu and Kashmir has excellent health indicators than the national average.
“The health infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir has been upgraded massively and it is true that we had a deficiency in the private health sector but with the introduction of New Industrial Scheme in 2021, this deficiency will be overcome,” he said.
LG Sinha said in Srinagar, two new super speciality hospitals are functional including Ujala Cygnus Hospital, Paras Hospital, three Medical Colleges and another super speciality hospital which is being constructed by Mili Trust. Similarly in Jammu, Apollo hospital will be constructed, he said.
“I think in upcoming years, more private players will also join the caravan and the private health care sector will be boosted by these things in the region,” he said.
LG Sinha said the government is already working to provide best health care facilities to the common man through various schemes such as the PMJAY-Sehat Scheme.
“In rest of the country, this scheme is only for people living Below Poverty Line, but in J&K it is being availed by citizens with 5 lakh health insurance cover to every family,” he said.
Lt. Governor said Golden card has been provided to every family and government spends rupees 2 Crore daily for free treatment of people in Jammu and Kashmir under PMJAY-Sehat Scheme, which is priority of the administration.
He said that the heath parameters in Jammu and Kashmir is ahead of the national level average and it is due to joint efforts of health department officials.
“During the second wave of Covid19, due to early decisions, the pandemic was averted and there was no shortage of oxygen cylinders, beds for patients,” he said.
Lt. Governor said when he assumed charge at Raj Bhawan in August 2020, the oxygen generation capacity was 14000 LPM and after it was decided that new oxygen plant will be made functional, and due to which our capacity was 48000 LPM in 2021 during 2nd wave.
“During the Covid19 vaccination drive, our health workers reached far-flung areas for vaccination. Citing the Mumbai High Court, that directed its health department to implement the health model of Jammu and Kashmir in the state,” he said.
LG Sinha further expressed his gratitude to health department officials and workers for successfully implementing the targets and they did it religiously.
He said in Rajouri, Poonch and Kishtwar districts which are far-flung areas of the Union Territory and where we face difficulties.
LG directed officials to conduct special health camps for these regions in February 2024, so that people will not face any difficulties in the region.
Dr Rajiv Pradhan¸ Organizer of the Medical camp briefed on the key initiatives of the Rotary Club of India in the health sector. He expressed gratitude to the UT administration for the support and assistance in their efforts to organize the medical camp and serve the people in Jammu Kashmir.
Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor; Vijay Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Bhupinder Kumar, Secretary Health and Medical Education, members of Rotary Club, senior officers, Doctors, Paramedical Staff attended the inaugural ceremony, in person and through virtual mode.
