Srinagar, May 10: Janata Dal (United) president for Jammu and Kashmir, G M Shaheen on Saturday strongly condemned the “deliberate” targeting of civilian populations by Pakistan and called on the government to take immediate steps to rehabilitate the affected families.
Shaheen in a statement said thousands of people have lost their homes and shelters due to heavy mortar shelling by Pakistan. He appealed to the government to urgently provide shelter, food and relief to the displaced families.
He further expressed grief over the loss of Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) of Rajouri, Dr Raj Kumar Thapa, who was martyred in the line of duty. “My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families,” Shaheen said.
Reaffirming his faith in the nation’s defence forces, the JD(U) leader said, “Our army and security forces will give a strong and befitting reply to Pakistan.”
He added, “It is a truth that we can choose our friends, but not our neighbours. If the neighbour is like Pakistan, it becomes our duty to stand united and ensure they are held accountable for their actions.”
