Srinagar, May 13: A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of Army was injured after Army foiled an infiltration bid by terrorists in Uri sector in Baramulla on Saturday.
PRO (Defence) Srinagar, Col EmronMusavi said an infiltration bid by terrorists across the LoC in Uri Sector was foiled by the Indian Army during early morning hours on Saturday.
“A group of armed terrorists, while attempting to cross the Line of Control, were engaged in an exchange of fire with the alert troops resulting in a failed attempt to intrude into Kashmir Valley,” he said .
Col. Musavi further said a quadcopter was also flown by the Pakistan Army to aid the terrorists was also spotted across the Line of Control, and was fired at, causing it to withdraw.
“This desperate action by the terrorists, duly abetted by the Pakistan Army, is yet another failed attempt to disrupt the G20 Summit and create disturbance in the Valley. Extensive search operations are underway in the densely forested area,” he said.
Army sources said that one JCO was injured also during the exchange of fire and he had sustained minor bullet injuries on his hand & calf.He is stable and is out of danger,” they said.
On May 3, a, joint party of security forces killed two infiltrators and foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line LoC in Machhal sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
“Well coordinated counter infiltration grid was put in place in this rugged and extremely difficult area. A number of additional ambushes including those of Army and SOG Kupwara were placed along the likely routes of infiltration,” Army spokesman said.
Kashmir is all set to host the first and biggest international summit on May 22-24. Preparations for the G20 summit are in full swing as Kashmir is all set to host delegates from several countries for the first time in its history.
The event, which will take place from May 22-24 at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on the banks of the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar, is expected to have a positive impact on the tourism and trade sectors of the region
Security has been tightened in the Jammu region, particularly in border districts, and more than 10 Army schools have been closed as part of precautionary measures.
The security agencies have identified infiltration routes and stepped up security to prevent any infiltration from across the border.
Multi-tier security of Army, Border Security Force, police and Central Reserve Police Force besides Village Defence Committees has been activated along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC).
