IUST inks key MoUs with 3 govt colleges

Awantipora, Sep 30: To foster innovation and entrepreneurship skills among students, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) signed key Memorandum of Understanding with three Government colleges of Kashmir on Friday.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), led by the Department of Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (CIED) of IUST, was signed with Government Degree College (GDC) for Women Anantnag, Pulwama, and GDC Awantipora in the presence of Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shakil Romshoo along with other dignitaries and Principals of the concerned colleges.
During the inaugural remarks, Director CIED Dr. Parvez Mir, emphasised the role of innovation centre in in opening up the spaces for skill-oriented programs and helping students to overcome unemployment crises in the backdrop of National Education Policy (NEP).
Explaining the broader purpose of MoU’s, Dean Research Prof. A.H Moon opined that it aims to build an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship among academic hubs, in which colleges play a major role.
Later, Dean Academic Affairs Prof.Manzoor Malik, stressed on the need for innovation right from the college level. Mentioning IUST will always be at the forefront of innovation and boost the innovative ideas and skills among students. Prof. Malik added, “We also need to bridge the gap between universities and colleges so that both can mutually benefit. This can be done via career counselling and outreach programmes for college students.”
Applauding the role of IUST, Principal GDC for Women Anantnag, Dr. Irfan ul Majid, thanked the University for their Support while hoping that this initiative will prove beneficial for the students and help them explore different opportunities. While as, Principal GDC for Women Pulwama, Dr.Yasmeen Farooq, sought the constant guidance and support of university to help students in training and honing their skills.
Delivering the keynote speech, honourable Vice Chancellor of IUST, Prof.Shakil Romshoo thanked the guests and Principals of Colleges while laying stress on the importance of collaboration. He said the university has not only played a key role in excelling the academics and skilful growth among the students of UT but also in the rest of the country.
“More interaction between Universities and Colleges will in-turn benefit the students in longer run, Vice Chancellor said. While calling upon other Colleges to follow the suit, he said, IUST will always welcome and value collaborations aimed at uplifting the students and upgrading their skills.
Noting that the university has signed multiple such MoU’s this year with many industrial partners and institutions across India, Prof. Romshoo added such partnerships are important for the growth and excellence of the students.
Prof. Rumaan Bashir, Head of the Department Computer Science, IUST presented the vote of thanks.
Principal GDC Awantipora Prof. Zahida Naseem along with Finance Officer Mr. Sameer Wazir, Dr.Kaisar Javeed, Associate Professor Department of Computer Science, Dr. Faroze Ahmad, Associate Professor Electronics and Communication Engineering, Dr. Asifa Baba Assistant Prof. Department of Electronics and Communication, and other heads and Professors from IUST graced the occasion with their presence.
