Awantipora, Oct: Celebrating Gandhi Jayanti, Islamic University of Science and Technology organised a Seminar on ‘Importance of Truth and Non-violence’ in present times.
Dean of students Dr. Anisa Jan, kick-started the event by speaking about the importance of Gandhian values in current times and introduced Prof. Hamidullah Marazi, Director International Centre for Spiritual Studies IUST, who chaired the seminar. Dr. Inayat Rasool, Head Department of Arabic language and Literature, coordinated the event.
On the occasion, Prof. Hamidullah briefed about Gandhi’s life, his value, ideologues and his ideas of non-violence. Emphasising that Gandhi is a figure of non-violence and his birthday has been celebrated across the globe as an international day of non-violence; He talked about his great achievements like caste annihilation, social reforms, and his fight for equality.
Prof. Marazi also spoke at length about the vital role Gandhi played in the struggle for India’s independence and how he single-handedly changed the shape of the freedom movement of India with only non-violence and truth.
The seminar concluded with a Question/Answer session where students from various departments asked the speakers questions pertaining to the event. Followed by the vote of thanks given by Dr.Sajad Rashid, faculty Department of Arabic Language and literature.
The event saw the presence of a number of students and scholars from the university.
