Islamia College hosts renowned researcher from Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru

Srinagar, July 13: In a continuing series of academic events, Islamia College welcomed Dr. Kasturi Saha, a distinguished researcher from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India, to speak on pressing issues related to wildlife, biodiversity, and conservation.
The event, organized by the PG Department of Zoology and headed by Professor Javid Hussain, aimed to provoke critical thinking among students.
The lecture, which focused on bridging the gap between science and society, was inaugurated by Professor (Dr.) Tehmina Yousuf, Principal of Islamia College. Dr. Yousuf commended the organizers and highlighted the significance of such events in fostering a global perspective among students. She emphasized the need for global consensus on addressing global challenges and the role of youth in developing solutions.
Dr. Saha’s presentation delved into the relationship between science and society, showcasing her research on bat signaling, katydids, and prey-predator interactions. She stressed the importance of integrating scientific inquiry with societal sensibilities to develop a comprehensive understanding of complex issues. Currently serving as a researcher consultant with Wildlife Research Conservation, India, Dr. Saha’s insights were well-received by the audience.
The event concluded with a Q&A session moderated by Prof. Sajad Sarvar, who emphasized the importance of inviting experts from various fields to enrich the academic environment at Islamia College. Prof. Zahida Mehraj, a senior faculty member from the Department of Zoology, remarked that such lectures not only bring together brilliant minds to discuss critical issues but also inspire students and faculty to pursue excellence and innovation in their respective fields.
