Srinagar, May 18: To familiarise students with the organisation of sports events, a crucial part of the MPEd (Master of Physical Education) curriculum, the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES), University of Kashmir (KU), organised the second phase of its Intramural Hockey Tournament here.
The inaugural match was played between Real Strikers, led by Jahangeer Salaam and Saffron Strikers, led by Nasir Sheikh. Both teams displayed excellent coordination and skill and, in the end, Saffron Strikers emerged victorious with a scoreline of 5-3.
The second match saw Olympian F-16, led by Rameez Mughal, take on KU Hunters, led by Bhat Iqra. It was a one-sided affair, with Olympian F-16 dominating the match and winning 3-0.
Dr Surjit Singh, the Incharge of the intramural event, along with his team including Dr Iftikhar, Dr Iqbal Kabir and Surjit Kour (Lady Sports Assistant) put in sincere efforts to ensure the success of the tournament.
Senior Hockey Coach, Dr Harbinder Singh, provided all the necessary technical assistance.
On the occasion, Director, DPES, KU, Dr Mandeep Singh, said that hockey, being the national game of India and widely played across the globe, has been a regular feature of the Directorate since its inception.
“On behalf of the Directorate, I extend my gratitude to all the participants and contributors for making this event a great success,” he added.
