Srinagar, May 28: Police on Tuesday district seized nine vehicles and arrested their drivers involved in illegal mining in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The operation was conducted in the areas of Gonipora, Kunzer, Monagam and Old Town Baramulla under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla, SDPO Tangmarg, and SDPO Kreeri, a police spokesperson said in a statement issued here.
The seized vehicles include seven tippers and two tractors. The arrested drivers have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Shah, son of Ab Salam, resident of Batpora Kunzer; Manzoor Ahmad Reshi, son of Ab Ahad, resident of Pariswani; Bashir Ahmad Reshi, son of Gh Rasool, resident of Pariswani; Showkat Ahmad Para, son of Gh Mohd, resident of Kachwa Muqam Chandoosa; Gh Hassan, son of Ab Rahman, resident of Jal-Sheeri; Bilal Ahmad Lone, son of Wali Mohd, resident of Jal-Sheeri; Zubair Ahmad Khan, son of Ab Aziz, resident of Drangbal; Azad Ahmad Itoo, son of Gh Mohiuddin, resident of Bharampora Watergam; Riyaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Khazir Mohd, resident of Ladoora
“These individuals were found involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals. Police have registered cases under relevant sections of the law in PS Kunzer, PS Baramulla, and PS Kreeri. Investigations are currently underway to further probe the extent of the illegal mining operations and any other individuals involved,” he said.
The police have urged the public to report any such illegal activities to help maintain the ecological balance and ensure legal compliance in mineral extraction.
