Illegal constructions going on in Ganderbal district

Ganderbal, Dec 30:  Numerous unauthorized constructions are mushrooming along the banks of Nallah Sindh and the roadside of the Srinagar-Leh Highway, in direct violation of high court orders and government bans.
Reports indicate that these illegal structures have been cropping up for several months in various areas of Gund Tehsil and Kangan Tehsils in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. Astonishingly, despite clear directives, authorities seem to be mere spectators, allowing the unauthorized constructions to flourish.
Reliable sources reveal that influential individuals have erected illegal structures in Mamer, Ganiwan, Zirpora Kullan, Surfraw, and other areas within the Sub Division Kangan, directly encroaching upon the Nallah Sindh and Srinagar-Leh highway. This defiance of high court orders by the people has continued unchecked.
Even though the high court explicitly prohibits any construction within 100 meters of Nallah Sindh and the Srinagar-Leh highway, these structures are being erected brazenly in broad daylight. Local residents express frustration at the lack of action by concerned authorities, accusing them of negligence in enforcing the court orders.
One glaring example is the illegal construction in the Mamer area along the close banks of Nallah Sindh earlier this year, highlighting the blatant disregard for legal restrictions. Owners of these illegal structures seem undeterred by the high court orders, and the concerned authorities appear ineffective in curbing this ongoing violation.
The unauthorized constructions primarily consist of hotels, restaurants, and shops, compromising the natural integrity of the region. The iconic ‘Meadow of Gold’ is at risk of losing its pristine charm if immediate measures are not taken to halt these illegal developments.
Officials of the concerned department said that they will look into the matter.
