Srinagar, Jan 2: Indian Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering (IISM) on Monday completed its first snow skiing course in which 70 students from all over the country including 25 girls participated.
An impressive graduation ceremony was held in the Institute in which Ghulam Jeelani Zarger (KAS) CEO, GDA, Gulmarg was the chief guest. Col J S Dhillon who has revived this institute as Principal welcomed the guests and briefed about the institute and its different activities after its revival. “The institute has become so famous and attractive to the masses that its all courses are booked within minutes through online mode,” the institute said in a statement, adding that Col Dhillon has nurtured this institute and put in lots of efforts to bring it to its current standards.
Ghulam Jeelani complimented the students for the successful completion of their course. He appreciated the efforts of Col Dhillon and his staff for maintaining “a very high standard” of training and administration. He said the institute is the best platform to develop bonding amongst the youth of the nation. He advised the students to be very careful whenever they undertake any adventure activity.
Emphasizing the importance of sustainability and safety in such activities and always planning eco-friendly adventures, the chief guest said, “All of you must become the ambassadors of not only IISM but also of Kashmir which is the best adventure destination in the world.”
He said the institute is facing major challenges due to a lack of regular staff and important training infrastructure in Gulmarg. Despite all these challenges staff has worked very hard and not only revived this institute but made it the best in the country, he said.
He appreciated the management skills of Col J S Dhillon and promised all help from the administration to further develop this institute by installing all its training infrastructure and homologation of its ski slopes.
“Students were very happy to get admission in this world-class institute which provides centrally heated hostel to students and nutritious food during the training,” the statement said. “Many renowned schools such as DPS, Scindia, Lawrence, and Goenka have trained their students at IISM and many more are making a beeline to get admission in this prestigious Institute of the nation.”
