Srinagar, Sept 03: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, chaired a key security review meeting at PCR Kashmir, Srinagar, on Tuesday, ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Presiding over the key security review meeting at PCR Kashmir in Srinagar, Birdi briefed the participating officers regarding the overall election preparedness and arrival of CAPFs to the UT of J&K.
“During the meeting, all the district SSsP were briefed about the phase wise deployments available, inter-intra district movement of forces and their induction, de-induction in the districts,” he said.
He directed officials to identify and address gap areas in their respective districts, ensuring seamless election preparations. He briefed participating officers on overall election preparedness, the arrival of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and their phase-wise deployments.
The IGP stressed the need for proper logistic and transportation arrangements for the CAPF in their respective districts. He also directed that CAPF counterparts be involved during the deployment process and all efforts be taken for smooth induction of CAPF.
Birdi expressed confidence in the capabilities of the police and CAPF to provide a safe, smooth, and secure environment for the conduct of elections. He directed the range DIsG and district SSsP to review the preparations at their own level, identify the gap areas, and address the issues at the earliest.
The district SSsP briefed the IGP Kashmir regarding the preparations on the ground and assured that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections.
The meeting was attended by all range DIsG and SSsP of Kashmir Zone through video conferencing and physically attended by SSP PCR Kashmir, SO to IGP Kashmir, SP PC Srinagar, Addl. SP PCR Kashmir, and other senior officers.
The Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls are being held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. There are a total of 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, out of which 7 seats are reserved for SCs and 9 seats are reserved for STs. According to the Election Commission of India, Jammu and Kashmir has 88.06 lakh eligible electors. These are the first assembly elections to be held in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.
