Hybrid terrorist  killed in Bijbejara shootout

Srinagar, Nov 20: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday claimed that the arrested hybrid terrorist, who was behind the attack on two migrant labourers, was killed during anti-terrorist operation in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
 
The police said hybrid-terrorist Sajjad Tantray of Kulgam while accompanying the “police search party for identification” of a hideout in the CheckiDudoo village of Bijbehara, was struck by a bullet fired by terrorists.
 
A police spokesman said accused Tantray had confessed of having knowledge about the presence of terrorists at ChekiDuddo area of Bijbehara. Following which a joint cordon & search operation was launched by Police and Army (3RR).
 
“While the search party approached towards the suspected hideout identified by the accused, they came under heavy volume of fire from the hiding terrorists in which the said accused Sajad Ahmad Tantray received critical gunshot injuries,” a police spokesman said.
 
He said the injured was immediately shifted to SDH Bijbehara where doctors declared him brought dead.
 
He said the cordon in the whole area has been strengthened with the help of reinforcement and the search operation in the area was in progress. 
 
Earlier on the intervening night of 12-13th  November, terrorists attacked migrant labourers at RakhmomanBijbehara in which two labourers were critically injured. 
 
Among the injured, one labourer namely Chota Prasad son of Nethoni Prasad resident of Gorakhpur Khushi Nagar UP succumbed to his injuries on Nov 18,  while another, Gobind, son of Beema resident of Khushinagar UP is still under treatment. 
 
Meanwhile, in this connection, a case vide FIR No. 194/2022 under relevant sections of law stands already registered in PS Bijbehara.
 
“During the course of the investigation, Police arrested one hybrid terrorist namely Sajad Ahmad Tantray alias Furqan, son of Mohammad Maqbool Tantray resident of ShirporaKulgam,” the spokesman said.
 
He said during questioning, Tantray confessed of his involvement in the commission of said terror crime by using an illegally obtained Pistol which stands recovered on his disclosure.
 
As per the Police, the accused Sajad was earlier a terrorist associate of the proscribed terror outfit LeT and was involved in Case FIR No. 72/2018 of PS Yaripora, FIR No. 55/2018 of PS Yaripora and FIR No. 80/2018 of PS Anantnag. Besides, he was also detained under PSA from June 2019 to December 2019, the police maintained.
