Srinagar, Mar 3: Hailing from Srinagar, J&K’s former First-Class Cricketer Huwaid Hamid has passed BCCI’s Level-1 Cricket Coaching Course with distinction (securing 75 marks) and has qualified for Level-2 Coaching Course of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), conducted by National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru.
Huwaid’s letter of qualification was sent to the Administrators of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) by former Test Cricketer VVS Laxman, Head of National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Coach of J&K Under-19 Women’s team for the last two seasons, Huwaid was the part of the Support Staff of Jammu and Kashmir U-25 team as Fielding Coach in 2020-21 season, besides being the Head Coach of U-19 Men’s team for 2018-19 season.
Apart from being a qualified Level-1 Coach now, Huwaid has the distinction of being a qualified NIS Cricket Coach from National Institute of Patiala.
Hamid has represented Jammu and Kashmir in 7 Ranji Trophy (4-Day) matches, 4 List A Vijay Hazare (One-Day) matches and 3 T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches.
Playing as a right-handed batter, Huwaid had a reputation of hitting the ball with sublimity, elegance, grace, power and punch.
Not getting much opportunity at the Ranji Trophy Level, Huwaid has 41 runs as his highest score, however, he has the distinction of emerging among the top run-getters for J&K in one of the seasons of U-22 State A Trophy, scoring 269 runs in four matches, including power-packed 72 runs against formidable Delhi at Ferozshah Kotla ground, now Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in 2001.
Huwaid has the distinction of representing his Club namely ‘United Cricket Club Srinagar’ as the youngest ever Captain at the age of 19 years, besides having the honour of hitting 6 sixes in an over in the prestigious ‘Valley Cup’ in the year 1998, when there was hardly any craze of T20 cricket.
“The qualification for BCCI’s Level-2 Coaching Course has added more responsibility on my shoulders and I firmly believe that I will deliver the job to the best of my abilities. I owe my success to JKCA Administrators for giving me the opportunity,” maintained Huwaid.
It is pertinent to mention here that Huwaid has been instrumental in honing and polishing the skills of a good number of budding cricketers. He has done a great job in fine-tuning the skill of U-19 women cricketers by understanding their psyche, showing his wisdom to go into the philosophy of the same.
