Srinagar, April 11: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Dr.Owais Ahmed Friday chaired a review meeting to assess the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). The meeting focused on intensifying efforts to provide “Housing for All” and ensuring that the benefits of the scheme reach the intended urban poor and homeless populations.
The meeting was attended by the Senior officials of the Corporation. A key outcome of the discussion was the directive to conduct ward-wise intensive beneficiary identification camps across the city.
The Commissioner emphasised the importance of transparency and inclusivity in the implementation process and instructed the teams to ensure proper field verification and documentation for each identified beneficiary. Commissioner also called for enhanced inter-departmental coordination and public outreach to raise awareness about the scheme. “Every eligible person must be given the opportunity to live in a dignified and secure home. The goal of Housing for All is inclusive urban development, and we must act swiftly and efficiently to achieve this target,” said Dr. Owais. Dr. Owais directed the teams to expedite pending approvals, fast-track the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and closely monitor the progress on ground. Special attention was given in ensuring the inclusion of vulnerable groups such as women-led households, SC/ST families, and persons with disabilities. The meeting concluded with a strong call to action to intensify implementation efforts under PMAY-U 2.0 and to make Srinagar a model city for inclusive housing.
