Kargil, July 12: A remarkable feat was achieved as the Holy Flag of Imam Hussain A.S. (Paerchame Hussain) was hoisted at an altitude of 17,500 feet near Gangshanmu Top Thovina, Kargil in the Union Territory of Ladakh. This historic achievement marks the first time the flag has been placed at such an elevation in Ladakh.
The milestone was accomplished by renowned ski coach and adventurer Syed Shamshudin Umba, along with his friend Mohd Yousuf Shilikchey, after a rigorous two-day trek to the summit.
Speaking to the media, Syed Shamshudin expressed that the aim of hoisting the flag at Gangshanmu Top was to spread the message of Karbala among people and to showcase the stunning peaks of Kargil to the world, highlighting their immense potential for adventure.
Muharram, one of the most revered months in the Islamic calendar, commemorates the sacrifices of Imam Hussain and his 72 companions at Karbala 1400 years ago. Their philosophy of peace, justice, and humanity continues to resonate strongly in today’s era, inspiring people worldwide. The hoisting of the flag during this sacred month underscores the enduring legacy of Imam Hussain and the timeless relevance of his message.
The whole Kargil district is adorned with black cloths, flags, and banners commemorating the martyrdom of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad, Hazrat Imam Hussain, at Karbala. He and his 72 companions fought bravely for humanity, peace, and truth against the thousands of Yazid’s army, 1300 years ago.
