Srinagar, Apr 25
As the annual AmarnathYatra approaches, the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the well-being of pilgrims. Dr.Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Director Health Services Kashmir, revealed that comprehensive preparations are underway to provide optimum healthcare services to the yatris, with the yatra set to commence on June 29.
Dr. Rather highlighted the pivotal role played by the National Level Review and Planning meeting on AmarnathYatra, held in Srinagar in December 2023 and was chaired by AtulGoel, Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Last year witnessed a significant influx of pilgrims, with 5 lakh yatris visiting the holy caves over 60 days. Dr. Rather emphasized that due to proactive governmental efforts, pilgrims received exceptional healthcare facilities, and this year’s preparations aim to uphold and surpass these standards.
In anticipation of the yatra, DHSK plans to establish 55 medical stations enroute, including base hospitals, medical aid centers, and oxygen booths. Additionally, existing facilities will be upgraded to meet the escalating demands. A fleet of ambulances, including critical care units, will be deployed to handle emergencies effectively.
Specialist doctors across various disciplines will be deployed, ensuring comprehensive medical care throughout the journey. The installation of oxygen manifold systems at key locations will further bolster emergency preparedness.
The deployment of telemedicine units and the availability of eSanjeevani services underscore DHSK’s commitment to leveraging technology for remote healthcare delivery. Moreover, the introduction of horse ambulances represents a novel approach to ensure accessibility in challenging terrain.
Dr. Rather emphasized the importance of yatris’ cooperation and urged them to acclimatize to the weather conditions and carry necessary warm clothing. He stressed the mandatory requirement of health certificates issued by authorities for all pilgrims.
Furthermore, tertiary care facilities at renowned medical institutions will remain on standby to handle referral cases, providing comprehensive healthcare support throughout the yatra.
As the countdown to the AmarnathYatra begins, the Health Department Kashmir stands ready to provide exemplary healthcare services, ensuring a safe and fulfilling pilgrimage experience for all yatris.
