Srinagar Mar 05: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday said he has returned to J&K to “protect my people from the present crisis”.
“Our people are distressed and our rights have been unjustly snatched away,” Azad said while addressing a public meeting at Hillar Shahabad in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
He criticized other political parties for their “past failures and empty promises”. “Other parties have misled the people and raised slogans they have since forgotten. How can we trust them anymore?” he asked.
Addressing the gathering, the former chief minister emphasized the importance of unity in “defeating divisive forces seeking to suppress the region”.
He urged the people to consider his track record, saying, “You have tested them for years and witnessed my two and a half years as Chief Minister. Now, give me a chance to serve you. I will bring a revolution in J&K.”
He shed light on the “hypocrisy” of former BJP allies who are now accusing his party. “These parties should reflect on their own past actions before pointing fingers. They were the ones who formed a government with the BJP in the past. Even today, they are pleading with them to form an alliance.”
The DPAP chief reiterated his commitment to safeguarding the land and jobs of the people of J&K. He pledged to enact laws to protect the rights unjustly snatched away from the people and ensure their restoration. Azad emphasized, “If my government is formed, we will bring forth legislation to safeguard the rights of our people.”
He also addressed the issue of statehood restoration, saying, “We have been promised statehood restoration, but we must continue to fight until we achieve it.”
Azad outlined his vision for comprehensive development in J&K. He highlighted the significant strides made in infrastructure and social sectors during his tenure, including the establishment of hospitals, colleges, roads, schools, and initiatives to boost tourism. He mentioned the establishment of a medical college in Anantnag, underscoring his commitment to furthering development in the region.
The former CM pledged to continue investing in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and tourism, promising more opportunities and progress for the people of J&K.
